Will You Still Love Me? When I’m Gone! begins almost like an ordinary journey into the past, but slowly unfolds into something far more emotional. At its heart are Eklavya, Ekta, Shail, and the choices they make when love collides with circumstances beyond their control.
What affected me most was Ekta’s love for Eklavya. Her love isn’t portrayed simply through wanting to be with him. When she believes her own future is uncertain, she makes the heartbreaking choice to push him toward a life that may not include her.
The thought behind her letter stayed with me: she wants to be remembered, but she doesn’t want her memory to become a prison for the person she loves.
That changes the meaning of love completely.
Sometimes we think loving someone means holding on. This story asks whether the deepest form of love can also mean letting someone go—not because your feelings have disappeared, but because their happiness matters more than your own desire to keep them.
And then there is Shail.🌻
For me, his friendship adds another emotional layer to the novel. He carries a truth that makes him appear guilty in someone else’s story, while silently accepting the consequences of a decision made for his friend’s future. His journey beautifully explores how friendship can sometimes demand sacrifices for which you may never receive recognition.
The later revelation changes the way you look at everything that came before it. What once appeared to be betrayal begins to look like sacrifice; anger becomes understanding; and years of unanswered questions finally start making sense.
And just when the story seems destined to leave you with heartbreak, the ending changes everything. ❤️
I finished this book in a single sitting last night and found myself sobbing at 4 a.m. by the final page.
At its heart, it is an earnest ode to "friendship till we die" and everything (even love) in between. I was moved by the bond Eklavya and Shail shared, there is something profoundly tender about a friendship that survives the passage of time, circumstance, and all the complications that life inevitably brings. The Allahabad and Lucknow backdrop brings an irresistible sense of nostalgia. Even after a decade, these cities seem to retain an almost ineffable charm, and the familiarity of their streets, rhythms, and little cultural nuances made several moments feel unexpectedly intimate and relatable. I did however, find myself questioning Eklavya's thought process in the first half of the book, particularly during his early romances and his encounters with Ekta. Some of the casual stereotyping felt jarring, even if it perhaps reflected the social milieu of the early 2000s. Not taking away the gist of the story-Eklavya and Ekta and their questionable forever- that's for you to uncover. All T'Il say is: this book made me want to scream, sob, and stare at the ceiling at an ungodly hour. Not to mention my heart ached for saloni for not getting to know her POV in all the chaos.
This genuinely felt like watching a 90s Bollywood movie in book form. Two friends, two love stories, college days, fights, misunderstandings, heartbreak and tragedy, taking us through Allahabad, Lucknow and Delhi.

I just finished this novel, and honestly, I have no words. This is so much more than just a love story. It beautifully brings together friendship, misunderstandings, ambition, family expectations, sacrifices, and learning to balance love with life and dreams.
The characters felt so real that they genuinely found a place in my heart. I laughed, I got emotional, and there were moments that actually made me cry. The story stayed with me even after I finished reading it.
If you’re looking for a book that has romance but also depth, emotions, friendship, and beautiful relationships, just give this book a chance. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

A story that broke my heart, made me believe in friendship, and somehow healed me at the same time. ❤️🩹
This story follows Ekalavya and Shail, two friends who have been inseparable since childhood. They come from completely different financial backgrounds, but to them, that difference never mattered. They were like brothers from different mothers.
They had planned their entire future together, college, higher studies, everything. They were supposed to do it all together.
Then, in Allahabad, during their college days, they meet Ekta and Saloni, two best friends. For Ekalavya, Ekta is love at first sight, the girl of his dreams. Slowly, they fall in love, with Shail and Saloni cheering them on. And eventually, Shail and Saloni fall in love too.
Everything feels almost too beautiful… until September 24th.
India wins the cricket match, but on that very same day, Ekalavya gets into an accident.
And after that, nothing is the same again.
What I loved most about this story was the friendship between Ekalavya and Shail. Honestly, I didn't like their friendship much in the beginning(Kind of felt Ekalavya is not a great friend I still feel kind of that). But the more I read, the more I found myself craving a friend like Shail. 🥹
I loved the way the writer described Ekta. There was something so peaceful about her character. I also loved watching Ekalavya become more responsible as the story progressed.
And one of my favourite things was how their different financial backgrounds never became a barrier to their friendship.
Somehow, this felt more like Ekalavya and Shail's story to me, a story about friendship, love, hate, heartbreak, and everything life throws at you.
There were chapters that genuinely broke my heart. There were moments that stayed with me long after I finished reading them.
But when I reached the end, one thing was certain:

Eklavya and Ekta’s story genuinely broke my heart. There were moments that made me angry, emotional, and just left me thinking, What if things had been different?😭😭

Eklavya’s life changes when he meets Ekta. What begins as a simple connection gradually turns into something deeper, but their relationship is anything but easy. Ekta comes from a privileged family, while Eklavya belongs to a middle-class household. The difference in their backgrounds becomes one of the many challenges standing between them.
What I particularly liked about the story is that it doesn’t remain limited to romance. It explores dreams, family expectations, friendship, love, ambition, betrayal and the realities of social differences. Eklavya’s journey especially makes you think about how far a person can go to make their family proud and what they may have to sacrifice along the way.
The story also keeps introducing unexpected turns, making it difficult to predict where the characters’ choices will take them. The emotional conflicts and changing relationships add another layer to the narrative.
I also appreciated that the characters aren’t simply placed into a straightforward love story. Their circumstances, choices and relationships keep evolving, making the journey more complicated and engaging.
Without revealing the major twists, I’d say this is a story about love that is tested by circumstances, friendships that are tested by time, and dreams that come with a price.
If you enjoy emotional romance with friendship, family drama, unexpected twists and a touch of suspense, this book can definitely find a place on your TBR.

I am not very fond of novel reading, but one of my friend suggested this book. So I just thought to read once, and when I started reading it, I really felt in love with this. And it is so amazing book to read.
